The Rowfant at Play

Clean at the factory

Early in May 2000, blessed with glorious sunshine glinting off saturated mud, the Rowfant ventured away from the tarmac to attend a local Scamp Owners Club meeting. The design certainly attracted attention from all present. Indeed, even A-framing the car to the venue behind Andrew's Series 1 Land Rover it gained a few enviable glances - imagine if the Rowfant had been towing the Landy!

Where did that hole come from?

Within minutes of arriving, we had managed to explore a track hitherto considered unpassable since the rains of the previous evening - the advisers were correct too! The Rowfant ploughed through the mud until it threatened to engulf the chassis at which point we veered off to apparent safety. The pictures show our error as we immediately ran into another gulley. Special thanks are due here to Chris Westgate who relentlessly winched us to safety.
Unfortunately Andrew gave up the wait and used the excuse of recovering the Rowfant to fetch the Landy. Needless to say that subsequntly got stuck with all four wheels in fresh air!

Made it out

The day certainly proved a valid experience, revealing a couple of details to refine. The sharp sighted will have noticed the lack of near-side front wing. This was a result of road vibration being carried into the support rods - the off-side one fell off on the way home! Not a major disaster: new support rods have already cured the problem. Apart from that, The Rowfant proved to be a great success - the work prompted by the philosophy of weight reduction was certainly vindicated.

With the Rowfant free, recovery of Andrew was straight forward.

Even Landys get stuck!
